Mild steel pipes are long, hollow tubes that are made from low-carbon steel and used for various pipelining and tubing purposes. They are produced by two distinct methods which result in either a welded or seamless mild steel pipe. In both methods, raw steel is first cast into a more workable starting form, before being made into a pipe by stretching out into a seamless tube or forcing the edges together and sealing them with a weld. Mild steel pipes are usually coated with other metals, paints or varnish to prevent them from corrosion and are widely used for general engineering and structural applications.

Uses of mild steel pipe include textile machinery, chemicals, food processing, power plants, construction, architecture, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas processing, mining, water treatment facilities, energy industries, refinery and petrochemicals.

Grades

Mild steel pipes (welded or seamless) that are produced according to EN10255 standards, are usually hot dip galvanized and used in civil and industrial installations. Grade EN10255 mild steel pipes have low carbon content, which makes them easy to form and shape. The hardness of Grade EN10255 mild steel pipes can be increased through carburizing, whereby the steel is heated below the melting point in the presence of another material. Grade EN10255 mild steel pipes are commonly used for fireproof installations, natural gas distribution and civil and industrial installations.
